Expert: Steve Mills Date: 4/28/2008 Subject: gears, are they stripped?
Question i inherited a beautiful mountain bike, but... can pedal but go nowhere. chain is on but it's like the gears on back wheel are not catching. everything rotates, pedals, chain, back gears, but not the wheel. are you familiar with this.
Answer The problem is the teeth on the inside of the hub are supposed to catch and this in terms will rotate the wheel. To fix this, in most cases the free hub needs to be replaced. In order to replace this you will need to buy a special free hub tool or bring the wheel to your local bike shop. If you have any further questions, please ask.
