what are the most common tools needed to repair bmx style bikes? my son"s birthday is Sunday and he keeps swiping my tools.. i want to get him his own set. what should i get ?

Hello Gary. The most common tools to use would probably be 4,5,6,8mm hex driver tools (the 4,5,6 tools can be found in a "Y-wrench" style). 8,10,12,13,14,15,17,and 19mm wrenches are common, and an adjustable wrench is a nice back-up. Simple screwdrivers. A set of tire levers are always nice for flat tires. I higly suggest Pedro's levers since I haven't ever broken one and they're guaranteed for life!

Those are the basics. If he is doing major work like with the chain, bottom bracket, freewheel, or wheels, then he is going to need special tools and they may be expensive. If you do want those tools, talk to me again and I will show you some pictures of the tools he may need. Congratulations on your son's birthday!
