Bicycle Repair/Bike after a rain storm has problems

Question
My bike is a 26 inch, 21 speed mongoose DXR AL dual suspension mountain bike, bought in 2003. two days ago(as of this writing) , I went for a ride in a light drizzle of rain. During the ride through the rain, the bike started having pedaling problems, and when I tried to bring the bike onto my driveway on foot, the back wheel(controlled by the pedal)was moving with extreme sluggishness. Two days later, the bike can't take riding up a hill in 6th or 7th gear where it used to handle fine, and the back wheel moves as though something is stuck to it. Every time for the past two days since the rainstorm, the bike makes a snapping noise every time I try to pedal faster. What should I do?

Answer
Hello Dayo. This is one of those questions that is hard to answer without seeing the bike or actually riding the bike. You can try to lubricate the chain, derailleurs, cables, and shifters and see how that works out. No WD-40 however.

I'm sorry I cannot help you out too much with this. If you are continuing to have problems with this, please contact me again so WE can figure out the problem and solve it as fast as possible so we can have you riding again.

I can answer questions on all issues you may have encountered with your bicycle. Some things are hard to explain without visually seeing or riding the bicycle such as vague 'clanking' noises.

I was my neighborhood mechanic as an early teenager. I have also worked in a bicycle repair shop for about a year and a half.
