Bicycle Repair/Pedals/Crank

Question
I just got a new mtn bike (Roadmaster) and want to put clipless mtb pedals on it but the problem is - the (male) Threaded spindle of the clipless pedal is too large to fit into the female end on the crank arm. Do I have any option other than a new crank that will accept standard size male threaded side clipless pedals?

Also this bike has an 18-speed "Torque Drive" system (FD, RD, and twist-shifters). If I got a new triple crank, would I need new components (those listed) too? Is the "Torque Drive" compatible with Shimano mtb parts?

Thank you in advance for your help/expertise! Much appreciated!

Answer
The 2 common pedal sizes are 9/16" and 15mm. Your best option would be to return these pedals and get a set that will fit your crankset. If you go about replacing your crankset, you will need to replace other components if they are not compatible. If you have any further questions, please ask.
