Bicycle Repair/Stiff freewheel

Question
Bought some Mavic Kysirium wheels second hand, they are in good condition as far as I can see but the freewheel seems very stiff to me--was told its normal and indicates no wear rather than a problem, but with the back wheel off the ground its stiff enough so if I back peddle the wheel turns ?? Surly this will be slowing me down when I free wheel down hill ?? Thanks for your time www.Chez-Ray.com

Answer
Hello Ray. First you should remove the cassette, then the cones and axle, and then the bearings. Take a 10mm wrench and place it into the free hub. Tighten and loosen as you please. If you need anymore help with you wheels or anything else let me know so we can get it figured out.

Expertise

I can answer questions on all issues you may have encountered with your bicycle. Some things are hard to explain without visually seeing or riding the bicycle such as vague 'clanking' noises.

Experience

I was my neighborhood mechanic as an early teenager. I have also worked in a bicycle repair shop for about a year and a half.
