Bicycle Repair/rear wheel and pedals do not move

Question
My daughter has a Great Divide Magna Bike from Target. She was riding one day and was shifting and the bike just locked up. When you look at it it looks like the break is the problem because it is rubbing on one side so we checked that and the breaks are aligned, we checked the wheel and that does not seem to be bent. The pedals will not budge.

Answer
Hello Char. The chain may have sucked reversely into the derailleur. The cause may have been that she shifted to hard. Look at the chain, freewheel, and derailleur. Does the chain look disfigured and sucked into the freewheel? I cannot give you an honest answer without looking at the bike. If this is not the culprit to your wheel problem let me know so I can help your daughter get back on her bike and riding again.

I can answer questions on all issues you may have encountered with your bicycle. Some things are hard to explain without visually seeing or riding the bicycle such as vague 'clanking' noises.

I was my neighborhood mechanic as an early teenager. I have also worked in a bicycle repair shop for about a year and a half.
