Answer
You cannot explain all life processes by observing living organisms.  Movement in plants is internal.  Their response to stimuli (light) can be seen by turning an dreproduction is implied through flowers.  Movement and response in animals is easily observed.
Metabolic activities can be implied through growth.
Change (evolution) can anly be seen over long periods of time.
