Answer
Dear Pascal,

Filariasis is the term used to describe an infestation by parasitic nematodes (roundworms, or filaria), tiny worms that inhabit the blood and lymphatic tissues as adults.  This has nothing to do with vitamin C, though it is a very serious problem.  If you have filariasis, vitamin C is not the answer; you need to see a physician for appropriate treatment.  Diet should not affect the intensity of itching from the parasites, and vitamin C will not cure the problem.

Excessive vitamin C can sometimes cause an itchy rash, but it would be nearly impossible to get sufficient vitamin C from fresh food to get that high a dose.  In cases like this, people have taken too many tablet supplements--not overeaten foods with vitamin C in them.

Vitamin C does not contain sugar, nor is it a source of energy.  It is a coenzyme necessary for the body to perform many different metabolic reactions and maintain body repair and healthy immunity.  But it is only one bit player in a very complex system.

I hope this helps clear things up.
