Question
My name is Julia and I'm 13 years old. I know I seem really young, but I have a love for marine biology. Im in the 7th grade and I just wanted to know what I should be thinking about, (classes, scbua diving, etc) untill college if I really  want to be a marine biologist. Also, what do you thnk the best college(s) would be to go to? Thanks!
-Julia

Answer
Hi Julia;
13 is not too young to start thinking about how you want to spend your life and I cannot think of a more rewarding job then working with living things and especially ocean creatures. Today Marine biology is more important then it ever was because our Oceans are in trouble.
In five years you will be ready for college.  Starting now take all the science classes that your school offers. Watch all the nature shows. If you can do some snorkeling then do so.  If you have a aquarium nearby volunteer there.
I do not know what colleges to refer you to. Most state colleges have good biology programs.  What state do you live in? California and South Carolina have excellent graduate programs in Oceanography as well as Woods Hole in Mass.
 If I can help you more please let me know.  Use my email address.
