Biology/I have a question about marine biologists...
Expert: Walter Hintz - 4/1/2008
Question Hello Mr. Wintz.
I am researching to be a marine biologist, and I can't seem to find anything
that will help me for a project I'm working on. If you can help me that would
be so great. Can you tell me what a marine biologist does in their job? What
are the education requirements for this career? What courses should I take in
college?
Any help is greatly appreciated. If you can't help me on this specific topic,
could you please give me the e-mail of someone who can help me?
Thanks so much.

AnswerMarine biology covers a wide area. It involves not only the study of living sea creatures but the ocean environment and all the physical characteristics of the sea. Most marine biologist specialize in certain areas. One person may be studying whales and another is interested in microscopic sea life. Another may be studying the tectonic activity on the sea floor.
To be a marine biologist a college degree is needed and a Master's helps. In high school take all science courses and in college major in biology and take all courses. Chemistry is also important.
You should have no trouble finding information on this topic. Google Oceanography which is another term for marine biology.
If you have a college nearby and live near the ocean make a visit and see if you can find a biologist who can help you.
