Question

Acorn
Dear Dana,
Please see Photo. Could you please tell me what type of Oak Tree Disease would cause this type of Malformed Acorn.

Many Thanks

Pete

Answer
Dear Peter,

Looks like Acorn Knopper Gall.  This is caused by the gall wasp Andricus quercuscalicis.  You can read more about this at these web sites:

http://www.uksafari.com/galls4.htm

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knopper_gall

Hope that helps!
