Question
Hello Mr. Hintz I want to know about yeast metabolism I'm in seventh grade.

Thank you.

Answer
Hi melanie
Yeast is a fungus and a saprophyte. It gets its energy from non living organic material.  There are many kinds of yeast and some cause disease.  I am guessing you are asking about brewers yeast. This yeast gets it's energy by fermenting sugar.  Using enzymes it breaks down the bonds in the sugar molecule releasing energy and forming alcohol and carbon dioxide.
