Question
My friend and I were debating whether you could theoretically engineer a snail to move quickly. Is it the snail foot friction that is the limiting factor in terms of speed, or just the fact that the snail is not able to contract its muscles more quickly? Or is it some other factor?

Answer
Hi Amanda
I have never considered this question before but from what I know about biology I would think not. The speed  of a snail is not determined by DNA but the morphology is and the structure of a snail limits rapid movement.  Both friction an muscular actions are limiting factors.
