Question
What would happen if you underdecolorize a gram positive organism? And the same question for gram negative organism?

Answer
Hi Gillian:  Thanks for your question.

If, by "undercolorize" you mean you didn't leave the crystal violet on long enough, you would get a light blue gram positive organism.  For a gram negative, the counterstain is red, so you would have light blue and pink organisms.

Is this what you wanted to know?  If not, write back and we'll discuss it some more.
