Question
what do we mean by isolating mechanism?
how exactly does this helps to bring about evolution...

Darwin stated that there is variation among species. In a large population with a large gene pool variations are hidden by dominant traits. When a population becomes isolated the recessive trait appear leading to the development of a new species. Examples are teh Kabob squirrels of the Grand Canyon and the lizards on the Galapagos Islands
