Question
hi walter, i have light hazel eyes and both of my parents have dark brown eyes. why is this? also when the sunlight hits them they have a sort of design in them? what is this?

Answer
Hi Jess
Eye color is due to  pigments and there are multiple genes that determine the amount of pigments in the eyes .  The more pigments the darker the eyes.  Dark pigments dominant over lighter pigments; dark brown dominates over hazel.  Your parents are carrying genes for lighter eyes as well as the darker genes.
AS far as the patterns in the eyes my guess is that this due to scattered reflections
