Biology - Stomach Acid

Expert: Shweta Mishra - 6/23/2009

Question
Is it true that stomach acid is strong enough to melt razor blades or similar materials?

Answer
The pH of gastric acid is 2 to 3 in the human stomach lumen. This is considered highly acidic. Depends on what the blade is made of and the time its left with the acidic content of stomach.
If its Aluminum then sure if left for longer period of time at least the blade will become rough if not entirely melt.
