He is correct. They can be dangerous but the chance is very very slim. You are more likely to get infected by cat feces that are handled according to the status quo, in a litter box and cleaned frequently. Mice are actually very clean animals regardless of the image Hollywood portrays of them. The reason you found fear on those sites is because that's what sells and that's what will catch your eye. Just clean up and all is well. If you were going to get sick it would have happened before they were gone.
