Question
Is it proven that we are living longer in good medical condition if we don't smoke, drink alcohol, eat fast food and exercise?

Answer
Dear Vera,

In science, things like this are not really said to be "proven."  Rather, one can say that there is a strong statistical correlation between things like smoking, drinking alcohol, etc. and an increased chance of early death due to various ailments also associated with those habits.

So while we cannot say that it is *proven* that avoiding smoking, alcohol, etc. we will live longer, we can say that our statistical chances of acquiring certain disorders associated with those habits are less likely to afflict us.

Hope that helps.
