Question
Dear Prof Walter

Do fishes make sound?.

If not, is the biological reason for this is absence of Vocal cords?.

Thanks
Prashant

Answer
Fish do make a sound by blowing bubbles but the sound is actually artificial. They have no vocal cords. hen we seek reasons for things like this we have to look to evolutionary biology. Fih are as they are because that is the way they evolved.
Marine mammals do make sounds .
