Question
Explain why water dissolves so many different substances.

Answer
 Hi Sheri:
The water molecule consists of two atoms of Hydrogen each with a positive charge (Each atom is a proton) and one oxygen with a negative charge) The charges are uneven however and the molecule has  + and - ends.  it is a polar molecule and attracts other polar molecules(dissolving) them.  It repels non polar molecules. (like oil)
