Question
If you have a diploid number of 8, how many chromosomes will each daughter cell contain?

Diploid number (2n)-
My Answer:  ?below?
Does this mean that each daughter cell has 16 after the cell cyle?

Answer
Hi Jan
A diploid number of 8 means that there are 4 pair of chromosomes.  During mitosis the paired chromosomes are duplicated and separated so the daughter cells will each have 4 pair. The 2n number of an organism never increases during mitosis.
Consider this Jan. If they would have 16 then the next division would have 32 and after that 64 etc.
