  There is still a lot of mystery about the human brain.  People can survive when one whole side of the brain is removed so it appears we do not need it all to live.  Why is it so big than?  We do not know.  You ask how to use the brain more.  My answers would have to be philosophical. I know of no technical answer to this.
Read a lot.  Think a lot.  Give in to your curiosities.  Travel.  Keep active.
