Question
What is cytolysis? Why and when does it occur?

Answer
It's the destruction or dissolution of a cell.  It occurs when worn out cells like red blood cells are due for recycling.  It also occurs in phagocytic cells like the amoeba that engulf other organisms and when cells like animal white cells engulf bacteria.
