Question
Does a particular environment, prior to the development to genes, play any role what-so-ever on the overall genetic outcome?

Answer
LaMarck believed that acquired characteristics (brought about by environment) could be passed on but this is not accepted today. Lynn Margulis feels that speciation is stimulated by symbionic relationships with eukaryotes.  Environmental factors can cause chromosomal damage however that can be passed on.
