Question
I have an anatomy and phsiology test coming up and I am not sure if I understand the concepts and resons to our experiments can you help me?

The first experiment we 5 glass vials.

Vial 1 solution 5ml
vial 2 distilled water and 0.9 saline 4.5mL/0.5ml
vial 3 distilled water 4.0ml and 1.0 ml saline
vial 4 distilled water 3.0ml and 2.ml 0.9 saline
vial 5 0.9 saline 5.ml

Starting with vial 3 we dropped 2 drops of sheeps blood into the tube we had to record how long it took the blood to hemolyze

I cant find my data and this is a new class and I dont have anyone to ask!

The questions were...Do you see a pattern in the time it takes the soultion to hemolyze?

Are the times to hemolysis for each tube the same to yours when you compare your results with other classmates? And why is that?

What accounts for hemolysis?

We had another experiment showing dialysis.

I sorta have this one under control. We took a starch and sodium chloride solution and put it into diaylsis membrane.

put one of each tube and put them in a perti-dish with distilled water. One dish I added iodine and one i added silver nitrate. The one with the iodine turned the stuff inside BLACK so I knew iodine was going into the cell. The one with the silver nitrate I know NACL came out cause I had a percipitate in the dish but I dont recall if I had any in the "cell". Also we had to rinse off the one that wa the ilver nitrate experiment and then drop 2 drop of the ilver nitrate on the sac? I dont remember if there was still nacl in the sac or just in the bowl.

Answer
I am having problems with this lab.   If I understand the proceedures I would expect blood cells to crenete in vial 3 and not hemolyze. This is because H2O woul leave the rbcs
In vials 4 and 5 hemolysis should occur faster in 4 than in 5. The 0.9 saline would be less in 5 than in 4 and no longer isotonic.
The pattern would be the same since the conditiona are the same
Hemolysis occurs when water enters the cell by osmosis causing it to burst

Second experiment.  NaCl would still be in both places.
