Is a rabbit a rodent?
Thanks for using AllExperts, Kate. A rabbit is actually part of a group of animals known as lagomorphs, which also includes pikas and hares. They differ from rodents in the number and location of their teeth, their genitalia, and their diet (lagomorphs are herbivores, while rodents eat both meat and plants). The taxonomy methods now used to classify animals show that rabbits and rodents are separate; despite this, lagomorphs and rodents are closely related genetically.
