Biology/birds evolved from dinosaurs

Question
I know that birds are deprived from dinosaurs, but how could they have evolved if dinosaurs and Archaeopteryx, the first known bird, "died out"?

Answer
Good question Christina.
Extinction is a part of the evolutionary process.  The evolution of birds took a very long time and archaeopteryx was merely a step in the process.  We cannot assume that archaeopteryx was the only key to the evolution of birds.  Although certain reptiles, the dinosauers became extinct their descendents are still with us.
