Question
Why do we need to increase our calcium (Ca++) as we get older?

Answer
Bones are constantly breaking down(osteoclastic activity) and being built up (osteoblastic activity)  Up to the age of 30 there is a balance between the two and blood calcium levels are in balance  After age 30 the breakdown rate exceeds the buildup rate.  Bone loss means calcium loss.
Why this effect of aging occurs we do not know.
