Biotech & Biomedical/M-17 e.coli and b.infantis.. can I mix them?

Question
Hello!
I'm currently taking b.infantis (a probiotic for IBS made by Proctor & Gamble, brand name Align) and I'm planning to add to that a probiotic strain of e.coli called M-17 (also for IBS along with other GI problems).  This strain of M-17 is being sold under the trade name Probactrix.  I talked to Biobalance's pharmacist, and he thought it would be ok to mix these two probiotics.  What do you think?  By the way, I noticed you were educated in Sweden.  Sweden rocks! I have a female internet buddy over there.  I hope to hear from you soon regarding the probiotics question!  And, thanks!

Answer
Hi, Will,

Thanks for your question.

The gut flora is made up of a whole host of different bacteria, etc. that live quite happily together and defend the body against attack by pathogenic organisms.

Some of these strains have been isolated and are now marketed as "probiotics".

I can see no reason why you should not mix the probiotics noted - they will no doubt compete and reach an equilibrium.

Best wishes,

Paul
