| Comment | Thank you SOOOO much with your responce and links to other sites that may be usefull to me. It is so great to have someone out there who cares and undrestands what help peaple with bipolar need. It is vary hard for us to get a grip on our illness let alone our Family. I am lucky that I have my Mother and Boyfriend in my life. I wont say that they have nessasarly been helpfull but they have been quit understanding. It is very hard for them to deal with but most of the time they get it,but sometimes I feel that whatever I feel is a little bit minimized and goes straight to the fact that I have bipolar. Lots of times my feelings are true feelings and not just my bipolar talking. This can be fustrating and angers me a little. I hope they start my treatment soon so I can start to feel a little more normal. | ||

I can answers questions from family members of adult patients with serious mental illnesses. I am most familiar with bipolar disorder [manic-depression] and schizophrenia. I use principles of the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill to provide clinical info, emotional support, and practical suggestions, including finances/insurance. Emphasis is on family health; family preservation and functioning; coping skills; and effective communications with patients [consumers] and with providers of services. I am not qualified to help families with patients under 18 I cannot answer questions about herbal remedies.
I have a daughter w/ bipolar illness. Have experience with clinical medicine/psychiatry through my work in a hospital library. I have taken and now monitor the NAMI Family to Family educational program and I facilitate NAMI family caring and sharing evenings.
