Question
I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder back in September. The question that i have is that I'm having a hard time believing that I had bipolar disorder. I hear voices constantly. It makes working very difficult to deal with. My psychiatrist thought at first I had schizaffective disorder but she changed it to bipolar. I take geodon, effexor, and lamictal. The medicine had helped but the voice had gotten louder. They have names now. At first they did not. I just looking for a clear cut answer as to what to ask her.

Answer
Hi Kara:

Bipolar disorder often comes with some psychotic symptoms such as hallucinations (both visual and auditory).  First, tell you doctor exactly what you told me about the voices now having names.  Then, ask what she thinks about adding an anti-psychotic medication to your regime, such as Seroquel.
