AnswerHello annette,
I know what you are talking about. It is so difficult to get somebody to see that they need help. Unfortunately treatment needs a client to be motivated.
Sometime it helps to read:
The Values Clarification at our web site to see if there are any values that could motivate a person to seek treatment. Please search our web site for VALUES CLARIFICATION.
Most Bipolar people benefit from the hypoglycemic diet that seems to even out moods.
Most of the drugs prescribed by psychiatrists have nasty side effects, and this could be a reason why she refuses to see a doctor. But fortunately most side effects of drugs can be countered by nutritional means. In case you manage to get her to see a psychiatrist, ask also for a referral to a Nutritional Doctor, or a Clinical Nutritionist or a Nutritional Psychologist. A good book is Werbach: Nutritional Influences on Mental Illness. Search our web site.
Please read:

and use our search engine to get to a specifi topic. For instance research the use of lecithin at our web site to treat mania.
Also read:

and go to page 7 of Newsletter.
which has information applying to Bipolar Disorder as well. See also:

Ask for a referral to a Nutritional Doctor, a Clinical Nutritionist or a Nutritional Psychologist if he wants to.
get as much information as to treatments for Bipolar Disorder. If she is a reader perhaps get her to read articles as well.
I so hope that you can find a solution, and please let me know if you have any further questions.
