Bipolar Disorder/Bipolar Disorder and Testosterone Replacement Therapy

Question
I just read a comment on your website from a mother who stated that her son was "perfectly normal" until he began testosterone, and it looks like it activated his underlying bipolar disorder.  I am a 51 year old man and my doctors keep wanting me to be on testosterone replacement therapy.  Each time I try, I become very angry, aggressive and have tons of rage.  When I stop I return back to normal.  I have a strong history of bipolar disorder and major depression in my family.  None of my health care providers have heard of this before.  Is there a connection between testosterone and bipolar disorder?

Answer
Hi Mark.

I have never heard of treating Bipolar Disorder with testosterone. It is certainly known to cause aggressive behaviour.

Look up our web site and search for "testosterone" which will lead to articles discussing testosterone.

The best is to search our web site for "Bipolar Disorder".
