Question
Dr Ivan,

I have been having uterine bleeding problem since I started taking antidepressants medications. I went under a D&C procedure to stop the bleeding. But a few month later, the bleeding increased again. After I read the article from the following link. I believe that I fall under the following situation. My doctor ask me stop the antidepressants medication that I am taking (Remeron). My bleeding problem went away. But I still need medication to control my depression and anxiety. It seems all antidepressant will cause same problem for me.  I am stuck and don't know what to do. Do you have any sugessions?

Answer
Hi Alice . . .

For many years there have been reports in the psychiatric literature regarding bleeding caused by antidepressants.  I have seen quite a few patients, both male and female, who have had bleeding problems with SSRIs and tricyclic antidepressants.

While there is a theoretical possibility that Wellbutrin might also cause bleeding problems, not one of the patients for who I prescribed Wellbutrin, after they were unable to take one of the SSRIs, had a bleeding problem.

Of course I have no idea if you would be able to tolerate Wellbutrin, but I think you should st least know of my experience regarding this problem.

Best regards . . .

Ivan
