Question
I have a daughter who is 24. She had 3 sm. hernia operations when she was 3 mo., 6 mo., and 18 mo. Between 1 & 2 she stopped eating most foods. I used to put peanut butter on indiv. raisins. she eats cereal, pasta, pizza, french fries, rice pilaf. she loves milk. she likes the smell of food but cannot get most food past her lips. she describes it as a phobia, afraid to try food. This is a very difficult position for her socially. she would love to learn to like foods and doesn't know how to start. She was rarely sick growing up, is smart, finishing off her BS degree and working full time. I could go on and on, but would love to be able to tell her how to begin this journey. We have contemplated hypnotism, acupuncture anything to help.

Answer
Hi Lynne,

It is very difficult to say from a distance, without a personal interview, to know what might cause this. I have a feeling it might be due to allergies or perhaps a digestive disorder. I suggest that you be asked to be referred to a Nutritional Doctor, Clinical Nutritionist or a Nutritional Psychologist. See:
