Question
Well last winter my mom was diagnosed with having a bipolar disorder. I am not sure which but she stopped taking her medication and it is going to affect me and my family again because of her behavior. What can I say to persuade her to start taking her medication again without her getting upset with me, like saying she doesn't need it. Please help. Thank you.

Answer
Hello L:

Unfortunately, every person is different, so it is difficult to know what will make someone listen.  Try sitting down as a family and start by telling your mother that all of you love her and are concerned.  Then let her know what concerns you and why.  Maybe give some examples of certain behaviors and how they effect everyone.  Keep your voice soft and make sure she knows you speak from love.  If this doesn't work, try discussing this issue with her family doctor and see if the doctor can talk to her.
