Question
i am 19 years old and having major mood swings i can go from feeling i can fly to being a total wreck crying in the corner of a locked room within minutes of each other i hardly get any sleep these days but when i do manage to sleep i can be asleep for days i also have random outbursts of violence at people that are closest to me without meaning to and it is because of these random outbursts i lost my job for snapping at a customer and breaking his leg i really need an expert opinion on this but i feel i cant go to my GP as he has more important and better things to be doing with his time than dealing with me i need to get this sorted quickly before i hurt anyone else please quick responses will be greatly appreciated

You have taken both the first and second steps in getting help--you admitted there is a problem and you are seeking advice.  I can't diagnose you, especially since I don't know your whole medical history, but there is something going on and it may be bipolar, or stress related depression, or any number of mood disorders.  My advice would be to look in your local phone book under mental health and make an appointment for an evaluation from a counselor.  Then take things from there.

As for your GP, many don't understand mental health issues, but you need to know that your problems are just as important as that of his other patients.  If you feel comfortable with him/her, don't hesitate to talk.  The doctor will, however, most likely direct you to a counselor as I have.
