Bipolar Disorder/dream or reality?

Question
Hi there, I am currently awaiting diagnosis but initial appointments indicate Bipolar 2. I sometimes have difficulty telling what i've dreamt from what's real. for example, I didn't wear my watch today as I was convinced I'd broken it but it's actually fine. I also distinctly remember posting things and then find the letters unsent. these are just two examples but is this something i should worry about?
many thanks for your time,
alan.

Answer
Hi, Alan . . .

Many people experiencing depression and/or mania complain of faulty memory. More often than not this is the result of defective concentration that is a product of the mood disorder. If your forgetfulness gets worse you should mention it to your psychiatrist who can order memory an other tests if she/he believes that they are indicated.

Most of my patients with memory problems such as the ones you mention experience relief from such symptoms as their mood symptoms are brought under control.

Best regards . . .

Ivan
