Question
hey I'm 15 and since i was 9 i have had these 'blackouts' but i don't know what it is, could it be bipolar? i get to stages where I'm really angry and then it's hours later. i don't remember doing anything at the time or a hour or two later. It really scares me because i could seriously hurt someone, especially my family. I've been to counselors and stuff but they say I'm fine but i know I'm not and i don't know what to do??? thanks Cheyenne xo.

Answer
Cheyenne:

Have you had a doctor check you for epilepsy?  In some people, any extreme emotion, like anger, can initiate a seizure when the person is epileptic.  I would ask that an appointment for an MRI be made and then you can discuss the results with the doctor and bring up your concerns.

In bipolar disorder, the only "blackouts" experienced are while in the midst of a fight--and then the person sleeps and wakes without recalling what happened.  This is fairly rare.  I think the medical tests should be completed first/  While you are at it, ask about having your blood lead level checked and your thyroid tested.
