Question
Do you feel that Klonopin can cause forgetfulness even after being on it for 10 yrs and this just started for me in the past year?  Or can it be from the disease itself?  The pharmacist feels that it is the klonopin.. but the people in my therapy group all say they have this problem cuz of their disease and stress.
Just wondered what your thoughts are on it  thanks

Answer
Hi Jennifer . . .

It is VERY unlikely that Klonopin will cause memory changes after 10 years.

It is more likely that the changes which you notice are the result of bipolar disorder. Some reduction in memory and concentration is often seen in people who have had bipolar disorder for many years. Despite these changes, my patients who have been working at responsible jobs have been able to continue performing at a high level.

Best regards . . .

Ivan
