Bipolar Disorder/Maybe Bipolar

Question
Hi,
I have adult ADHD combined type and i am currently in the University. I think i might have Bipolar when i was 24(2008). I noticed that i was having bipolar type during that time because i became more  energetic than ever. I also remembered that i was delusional and i do hallucinate but more on delusion every night and i had a lot of energy even i didn't sleep. This happened when my dog died on 2007 and i suddenly had bipolar type after 2 months. Is this possible? I am on Stimulant but i don't have delusion or hallucination when i am taking it. If it's really bipolar, Can i take Adderall and medication for bipolar at the same time? Adderall is works for me. Right now, i feel so stress and having meltdown that i am starting to have bipolar type. I need some advice, thanks

Answer
Hi Amy . . .

It is not rare for an individual to have both bipolar disorder and ADD/ADHD. Abstracts of articles fro scientific journals about the relationship between the two disorders may be found at:  http://www.psycom.net/depression.central.bipolar-ADD.html

I have many patients who safely and effectively take psychostimulants (including Adderall) for their ADD/ADHD and a mood stabilizer (such as lithium for their bipolarity.

Best regards . . .
