Bipolar Disorder/rapid cycle

Question
Hello,

I would like to get some insight.

My boyfriend was diagnosed with bipolar 2.
I do believe he is also rapid cycle. In the morning he has fits of rage, anger and seems down. In the afternoon he has lots of energy, talks a lot and acts funny (for his age) and then at nights he often gets down again. When down it sometimes seems as if he is crying.

If he is not going up and down he has 2-3 weeks of total depression or 1-2 months of hypnomania (or normalcy in other words just normal behavior and nothing like anger or going up and down) Can this fall under rapid cycle?

Further, is it possible to be on meds have a good sex drive and sleep normal and without meds have a low sex drive and not sleeping at all?

Furthermore, he works shift hours and I noticed that that also seem to effect his moods when he is rapid cycling. Should he change his job?

Besides taking meds, therapy is it also helpful to eat gluten free food (he already eats fish, pasta, vegtables and no fast food)?

I hope you have some answers for me... thank you

greetings

Answer
Hi sara B,

I think the best  advice wold be to suggest that he see a Nutritional Doctor in addition to a psychiatrist. Bipolar patients respond very well to a hypoglycemic diet. Please familiarise yourself with the nutritional aspect of Bipolar Disorder by reading articles such as:

Nutritional Aspects of Schizophrenia and Bipolar Disoder at:
http://curezone.com/upload/Newsletter/Hypoglycemic_He/HYPONL2001_06.pdf
and go to page 7 of Newsletter.

Alternative Treatments for Bipolar Disorder at:
http://www.alternativementalhealth.com/articles/default.htm#B

Also go to INDEX at our web site and look for LECITHIN, or Bipolar Disorder

What is Hypoglycemia at:
http://www.hypoglycemia.asn.au/articles/what_is_hypo.html

The Serotonin Connection at:
http://www.hypoglycemia.asn.au/articles/serotonin_connection.html

Going on a Hypoglycemic Diet (search our web site) will often resolve the problem, but if it does not, please ask to be referred to a Nutritional Doctor, Clinical Nutritionist or a Nutritional Psychotherapist. Use our "Search our Web site" for more information about terms you enter in the search engine.
