Bipolar Disorder/Discontinue Depakote ER

Question
I have heard you speak many times and value your advice.
Currently, I am taking 250 mg of Depakote ER (weaned off
from 1000 with dr.).  Today I took the last 250 mg pill;
will there be any effects (have been on 250 mg for 2 weeks)?
I can get the rx refilled; however, hoping not to do so.
Any effects of discontinuing Depakote ER?
Thank you.    FPavick@yahoo.com

Answer
Hi . . .

I cannot give personal medical advice, but when my patients ask me about the possible effects of discontinuing 250 mg/day of Depakote I tell them that while there should be no withdrawal symptoms, there may be a return of the disorder for which the Depakote was prescribed.

Best regards . . .

Ivan
