Bipolar Disorder/MSW?

Question
Hi Jurriaan,  Mental health is my passion, but I'm not sure I can get into the psychology masters program here in Milwaukee. I could definitely get into the social work program but, considering my interest in mental health, would I enjoy an MSW? To what extent do social workers work in mental health treatment? Thanks for being an Expert!

Answer
Hi John,

I don't know the circumstance in your area. I loved working in mental health myself, I guess because of some my personal problems. That is always an advantage, so you know how clients feel.

I specialized in the "Nutritional Aspects of Depression", but this is not yet recognized by most mainstream medicine and psychology. Universities do not teach it as yet. thus I experienced a lot of frustrations with my ‘employers' but never with clients.

You have to be aware that there is a lot of politics going on in the mental health areas.

I hope you can acquaint yourself with some of the articles I have written on the subject. I believe that with times this is the future in mental health. Psychologists will, have to be trained in Clinical Nutrition if they want to be successful in their job.

Cheers

Jur
