Bipolar Disorder/Teen With BiPolar

Question
I've been dealing with BiPolar for over a year now. I'm 14 now. I've been seeing a therapist and been on a variety of meds. At first I was just diagnosed with depression, then they realized that it was BiPolar. I've tried excercise, reading, writing, drawing, cleaning, going out with friends, calling someone, taking naps, spending time with a pet, and more things to try and help with the depressive episodes. I just want to know any suggestions you have about how to deal with the sadness. I often can't sleep too, making it even worse.

Veronica:

What meds are you currently taking?  I would suggest discussing an increase or change with your doctor, as it appears they are not working.  It takes time to get the right combination and dosage--please don't give up.

Ask your therapist if there is a support group in your area.  Often being able to discuss things with others who are going through the same thing helps.

It is important that you are honest with your doctor and tell him/her about the depressive episodes--and the fact that you aren't sleeping.

Often, trying something new can lift a person's mood.  Is there a group you have been thinking might be interesting?  A sport you've always wanted to try?  You have been doing well in seeking outlets, keep at it and talk with your doctor.  It does get better.
