Bipolar Disorder/bi-polar

Question
Can bipolar disorder  be cured and if so, how?
next question. Is there an alternative to treatment other than medication, like herbs or something natural?
If medication is the last resort, what is the best medication with the least side effects?

Answer
Mike:

First question:  No, there is no cure for bipolar disorder.  It can be controlled, but it is something that you must live with your entire life.

Second question:  There are some herbal treatments that can help ease certain symptoms.  I'm afraid that isn't an area I feel I know enough about to discuss.  It would be better to discuss this with a doctor or nutritionist.

Third question:  There has been great results with both Seroquel and Lamictal (or a combination of the two).  Both have few or no side effects and are quickly becoming drugs of choice with physicians.

I hope this answered your questions.  Please feel free to ask more if you have any.
