Question
are there any cases known where a bipolar patient has killed a family memeber

Answer
Hi Sera:

You ask a question many want to--but are afraid to ask.  Yes, bipolar people have committed murder, theft, and all other kinds of crimes--but so have bipolar people.  Those who have did so for reasons other than bipolar disorder.

Bipolar disorder does not make a person more prone to violent crimes, that is done by something else within a person's personality.  I have met many bipolar individuals who would never harm a living thing.

I hope this answers your question and eases your mind.  Please feel free to write again should you have other questions.
