Question
my adult son with ocd and bipolar is on 1000 mgs of depakote and also paxil and wellbutrin. he is VERY TIRED all the time so his psych took him off depakote, but with in a few days he was very depressed and just wanted to sleep and when he forced himself to go to work, he was within an hour very anxious so he escaped back to bed. obviously, he needs the depakote, so hes back on, my question is: what is the long term results of being on depakote and is there any way youve heard of to counteract the damage to the internal organs?  thank you in advance.  carol

Answer
Dear carol,

I can quite understand your concern. Depakote (Valproic acid) has quite a few side effects see:
http://www.medicinenet.com/valproic_acid/page2.htm

These are medical drugs and this falls outside my expertise. I think you need to discuss these problems with the doctor who prescribe these drugs.

If you are interested in alternative approaches I suggest that you contact a Nutritional Doctor or a Orthomolecular doctor.
