Question
ok my girlfriend has this thing.. when shes happy everything is just dandy she loves me I love her and we have a great time, but.. when shes in a bad mood she starts questioning whether or not she loves me and all sorts of stuff but normaly it happens when shes already in a bad or depressed mood.. like heres an example.. a few days ago we were talking and everything was fine just chattin but the next day she was all upset and didnt know if we could make it and stuff.. then the next day she was fine and then just yesterday we almost broke up cause she didnt know how she felt and then just a hour or so later of talking when she got into a better mood she was fine ... is there a psycological reason for this or what?

Answer
You asked this question in the Bipolar section, and if you think she may have Bipolar Disorder, she should see a doctor.

But if she has mood swings the way you described it, it could be that she has hypoglycemia.

Ask her to complete the NBI
at:

http://www.hypoglycemia.asn.au/articles/nutrition-behavior_inventory.html

She can score it herself. If she scores high, then she is most likely to be hypoglycemic, which means that she is not handling sugar very well.

The non-drug treatment for this is going on the hypoglycemic diet that is described at our web site at:

http://www.hypoglycemia.asn.au/articles/hypoglycemic_diet.html

After a couple of weeks n the hypoglycemic diet she will feel much better.

If you think that she may have a low self-esteem, which would make her sensitive to any perceived negative remarks, she would benefit from a course of PSYCHOTHERAPY. We have such a self-help psychotherapy course. It would be good if you could do the course together,so you can discuss it. Otherwise see a counsellor.

She should read:

"What is Hypoglycemia?"
